Green coffee bean extract comes from coffee beans that haven’t been roasted. Coffee beans contain compounds known as chlorogenic acids. Some believe that this compound has antioxidant effects, help lower blood pressure and help to lose weight. Roasting coffee reduces chlorogenic acid content, which is why drinking coffee isn’t thought to have the same weight loss effects as green coffee extract.

Green coffee became popular for weight loss after being mentioned on the Dr Oz show referred to it as “the green coffee bean that burns fat fast” and claims that no exercise or diet is needed.

How can green coffee benefit health?

Chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant, there is more chlorogenic acid in green coffee beans than the roasted variety. The body quickly absorbs and metabolizes chlorogenic acid, meaning bodies easily take advantage of the health benefits.

Studies show that green coffee bean extract can help fight obesity by helping to burn body fat. It supports a healthier metabolism, allowing the body to burn fats and carbohydrates. Research also suggests that chlorogenic acid helps the body to burn glucose and stored body fat while improving cholesterol. Numerous studies have shown that caffeine helps to boost metabolism anywhere between 3%-11% which helps the body lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

Green coffee extract holds many antioxidant properties, the majority of which have been shown to slow the effects of ageing. The high concentration of chlorogenic acid present in the green coffee extract reduces redness associated with excessive sunlight exposure. Caffeine also contains anti-ageing properties, limiting photo-damage, increasing skin smoothness and wrinkle formation.
